This month:
Deffinetly the most difficult painting job I have undertaken so far was shading black. How the heck do you 'shade' black? you might ask. The truth be known, you don't. take a look at a color wheel if you have one. The color that is darker than black is....... BLACK! Ok, so then how do you get a gondorian to look nice? You HIGHLIGHT the black. Heres the way I got my Gondorians to look good:
Step 1: base coat the gondorian in black.
Step 2: Paint over all black parts with Codex Gray, make sure you water this down.
Step 3: Here's the tricky part. You now take either watered down black ink or REALLY watered down black paint and brush it over the gray. Let this dry and then add another coat if needed. You should get a nice black cape with just barely gray highlights.
Step 4: Ok, you now drybruch more codex gray onto the highlights. With a VERY little bit of paint on your brush (most of it being wiped of on a tissue) you keep brushing the highlighted parts. Then slowly blend the gray into the black.
Step 5: Finish the rest of the model. I am going to suppose you've painted before and leave you with the rest of the model to do on your own.
